| 'Cortina 1.6 Base' |
 |
Having slimmed down to one Base model Cortina and a baby we shuttled around in this. We bought this because it was the best condition Cortina available at the time,
not my first choice but I went through a program of improvement.
First was a new black interior from a Ghia Cortina someone was scrapping, the car was under an apple tree and the interior smelt of Scrumpy, a day spent with
Vax wet/dry vacuum cleaner got that smell just sweet, then the carpet had to come out so I could lay down some sound deadening felt; can you believe the car had none at all!
Putting it all back in made such a difference, it seemd to take on a sort of dull warm feeling.
I then did the head of the engine as it used to pink terribly under any kind of load, still a decoke sorted that out. For those of you too young to remember leaded petrol; 4 star,
this used to allow the build of what looked like coal on the valve stems and combustion chambers, a decoke involved taking the head off, taking the valves out and scraping the coal off
then reassembling it, about a day's work. But on this Cortina it needed doing about every 3 months, I never found out why but I got the job down to about 2 hours in the end, from the start
I could have the head off and on the bench in about 20 minutes; pretty damm good I reckon.
The colour of this car looks like it is Biege, it wasn't it was grey but that didn't stop the micky taking and I forget the times I had to put it against a biege car just to proove a point.
