'Cortina 1.6XL'

This car was my first car of any note, I bought this car when it was 7 years old, amazing really as it really was quite rotten, both front wings needed replacing, the front and rear valence's were gone and two of the door bottoms had rusted through; all this on a 7 year old car!! Unforgivable when compared to modern cars.

The car was a 1.6 fitted with a 2.0L rear axle meaning that the acceleration was pedestrian to say the least, it had the flat front 'face lift' dashboard meaning it had anti-roll bars fitted front and back, these inproved the handling compared with the pre-face lift cars. I fitted the sports wheels in favour to the skinny hubcapped ones it came with and the spotlights from the GT, these mods really lifted the car.

I kept this car for 4 years when it should have been dumped in favour of a 3.0L Granada GL with a 4 speed manual gearbox that my brother was selling, and to this day I cannot believe that I didn't swap, I must have been mad!
